CASSANDRA D. DANKO is a senior project associate at The Early Learning Institute in Pittsburgh. She received her MSEd from Duquesne University. Her current professional work and interests include providing social skills training to preschoolers with autism and their families, and strengthening families of children with special needs. This study represents an attempt to build a home-based intervention package wherein caregivers encourage positive interactions between young children with autism and their siblings. Using a previously validated, classroom-based social skills intervention package, caregivers in three homes were able to produce substantial improvements in sibling interactions. Social validation assessment revealed that the modified intervention package was easy and enjoyable to follow. Moreover, caregivers reported interest in continuing to use the package after study completion.
